• Begin your Works Cited page on a separate page at the end of your essay. 
• Label the page Works Cited (do not italicize the words Works Cited or put them in quotation marks) and center the words Works Cited at the top of the page.
• Double space all citations, but do not skip spaces between entries.
• Indent the second and subsequent lines of citations by 0.5 inches (same as pressing the TAB key once) to create a hanging indent.
• Capitalize each word in the titles of articles, books, etc. but do not capitalize words such as of, the, a, to, an, in, with, at, but, from, by, or, on, and, for, etc. unless it is the first word of the title.

                Examples: The Art of War (The is capitalized because it is the first word in the title)

        To Kill a Mockingbird (To is capitalized because it is the first word in the title).

                Other examples: Gone with the Wind, There Is Nothing Left to Lose, Lord of the Flies.

• Citations should be in alphabetical order based on the author’s last name.
• If there is no author listed, start the citation with the article’s title. Make sure that the title of the article is alphabetized within the Works Cited list by the first word of the title (refer to Works Cited page example).
• Do not include http: or https: in the URL.

Essay Formatting Tips

• Make sure all margins (top, bottom, left, and right) are 1 inch
• Double space the entire essay
• Indent the start of a paragraph by 0.5 inches (same as pressing the TAB key once)
• Use Times New Roman, 12 point font

Citing Multiple Authors

• When there are two authors, the one listed first on the article is the first one listed on your works cited page
• If there are more than two authors, write the first author’s name (Last name, First name). Then place a comma after their name and write “et al” instead of listing the others

              Example: Patterson, James, et al.

• Give credit in the text for the idea or quote that has been taken from the author of the source.
• First complete the Works Cited page. This will save you time by making it easier to determine what is to be placed in parentheses within your essay.
• Usually only the last name of the author and the number of the page/s where the quote appears are listed in parenthesis.

              Example: 

 The importance of grains and legumes cannot be underestimated. Not only have they affected human nutrition but also cultural evolution  (Jones 116).

• Remember to put the period after the last parenthesis of the in-text citation.

If no author is listed:

• Use a KEY WORD found in the title of the article followed by the page number.

         Example:

 The article is "Problems with Plagiarism" and has no author. The  key word is ‘plagiarism’. So the in-text citation would be (“Plagiarism” 16).

If two authors are listed:

• Include both authors’ last name followed by the page number.

         Example:

         "Workforce diversity requires employers to be more sensitive to the differences that each group brings to the work setting" 

         (DeCenzo and Robbins 15).

If three authors or more are listed:

• Only list the first author’s last name followed by a comma and the phrase ‘et al.’ followed by the page number.

             Example:

             Carbohydrate, fat and protein are the three classes of organic nutrients which provide energy the body can use (Pitney,

             et al. 3).
