Literary Cake Contest - April 11

Literary cakes must be at least one of the following:

  1. Look like a book in form and shape 
  2. Be inspired by a book or author 
  3. Be a pun of a book title 
  4. Refer to a book character or genre 
  5. Reproduce a book cover
  6. Just have something to do with books in general

Other Contest Guidelines

  1. Entries must be in cake form.  Center can be made of Styrofoam, but decorations must be edible.
  2. Students must provide cake samples on contest date; flavors should coincide with book theme. Please see Chef Angnardo or Chef Kochi for details.
  3. The contest is open to any JWU student.
  4. Teams of no more than two participants are allowed.

Key Dates:

  1. Entry form must be returned to the library by Wednesday, March 29th at 5pm.
  2. Bring your cake to the Library between April 8th-10th.
  3. Entries must arrive before 9:00 pm on Monday, April 10th to be entered in the contest.

Timeline of Events

Wednesday, March 22 - Information Session w/ Chef Angnardo & Chef Kochi

Wednesday, March 29 - Deadline to sign up for contest

April 8-10 - Submissions accepted in the library (Note: submissions will not be accepted after 9 pm April 10th)

April 11

   1:30 pm - Cake sample set-up

   2:00 pm - Judging of cakes

   2:30 pm - Public viewing begins

   3:00 pm- Awards Ceremony

Note: times have been reserved in Bakeshop 2, HK 4, and HK 9 for students to work on their submissions. See Lab Hours box below.

When: April 4, 5, 6, 7, & 10


  • Morning, 7:00 am - 1:00 pm (HK 9--limited space)

  • Afternoon/evening, 1:30 pm - 7:30 pm (Bakeshop 2 and HK 4)
